We all have those moments, where we don’t really like something but we cannot put our finger on why. I have had it with this tutu (currently for sale) from the second I started making it. Some changes reduced my dislike, leaving me with a dull uncomfortable feeling every time I saw it. With a fitting coming up where it may fit the dancer I decided enough was enough and to look at it again, not putting it down until it was good. So what did I have a problem with? It turns out the answer was the decoration and not so much an issue with what was there but that it didn’t look complete. I added in stages until I was happy with the result. All items came from my stash. Its amazing how big the difference can be with a few little additions.
- The starting blank canvas. With very muted creams, golds and sea blues I looked at all my creamy golden shades…
- First find was this string of flowers in two sizes and leaf bunches
- A perfect fit! Time to sew on
- Better but not yet done The problem with the two similar muted colours was that it was all starting to wash out and blend
- This copper toned braid has one straight edge and one zig zag edge, beautifully matching with the pointed shapes on the tutu. I couldn’t have found a better match
- Sewn on there is now an added warmth to the tutu. But the additions still didn’t seem complete, they felt disconnected somehow
- Stones! I had these dropper shaped swarovski stones from America in light topaz but I only had 5 for 6 lace areas. Saved by a few Aurum Preciosa round stones I had left from a previous tutu
- Complete! Time to find it an owner!
